Back in 2007, I used to wake up, read the papers and check my mail.
Today, I have a plethora of tools that bring me news and blog posts.
- RSS (Reeder)
- Email Newsletters
- Bookmarked News Sites (Techmeme)
- Email from colleagues, friends etc.
I usually bookmark article in Pocket and get to them on the weekends. Earlier this week, my real later list on Pocket had soared to 155. Ouch!
Today, it is down to 45.
No, it is not speed-reading or skimming. It is a new rule that I follow.
Just go through articles pertaining to what you are currently working on.
For example, if you are fundraising then it is beneficial to read articles pertaining to fundraising. Anything else is going to have a higher bounce rate with your mind. Trying to absorb everything is like throwing darts in a dark room.
We are currently working on releasing a new product and hence my focus and reading is highly restricted to launching, hosting, UI designing, sign up pages, permission marketing etc. Anything out of this zone either gets put in Pocket (with an extremely low priority) or expunged.
